With rinoplasty being one of the famous plastic surgery process it is moving from the kingdom of the rich and famous into the houses of regular people like you and me.

Having surgery can entirely change their life and give them the confidence and self- esteem they were earlier wanting. The procedure can be carried out for medical purposes also like breathing problems, birth defects, or injury, or it may simply be carried out for aesthetic beauty reasons. Mr Ion points out that skin becomes thin with the growing age. Similarly, the fat around the nose looses resulting in the sagging of the nose. Hence, Rhinoplasty is more popular for people of old age bracket.

How rhinoplasty is performed?

If the nose needs to be smaller, cartilage and bone will be removed during surgery. The main process is a closed operation, performed from inside the nose and making no visible scars. The surgeon enters the nose by making cuts inside the nostrils and reshapes the bone or cartilage to give the desired shape. Mr. Patel says that a procedure now acquiring recognition is open rhinoplasty, where the nose skin is peeled back to acquire easy entry and allow a surgeon to watch what theyre doing, instead of depending on feeling their way. This procedure produces just a small scar on the columella (the skin between the nostrils), which should disappear over time.

Rhinoplasty cost Costs differ from place to place but is usually between 3,000 to 4,000.

Recovery time

After the rhinoplasty your face may be swollen, you may be bearing pain, or you may have a dull headache. There will be some puffiness and bruising around your eyes. You will have a splint over your nose to hold the bones in position. Dont do any ardous activities, spend too long in direct sunlight or stoop for the first week for any threat of bleeding. Realize that the tip of the nose can feel numb for 6-12 months, but sensation will finally come back.

Rhinoplasty and hazards it involves As Mr. Ion comments, there are very few hazards with rhinoplasty. Some patients may face a running nose (rhinitis) after surgery, but this usually returns to normal quite soon, he says. Theres also a minor risk of infection, reaction to the anaesthetic or the appearance of the tiny red blood vessels. But Mr. Ion appends: The major discomfort resulting from this surgery is a blocked nose caused due to puffiness. This may affect breathing, but should start to improve as the swelling fades away. Excessive removal of cartilage can create breathing difficulties and affects the appearance also. Conversely, most people get wonderful outcomes and remarks that it removes their breathing diffulties if any they have.

How long does it persist? Unlike other plastic surgery procedures (many of them need to be redone later), you shouldnt need to redo a nose job unless youre unsatisfied with the outcome. Mr. Patel says that in about 10 per cent of rhinoplasty examples theres a poor aesthetic result and five per cent of patients will wish to have the surgery again. The rhinoplasty surgery results will not be instantly apparent. Some residual puffiness will continue for six months to a year after the rhinoplasty operation. The ultimate outcomes will not be visible until this swelling has fully lessen.
