Missouri River Expeditions of Vermillion, South Dakota can facilitate families, novices, solo paddlers, and groups of up to 30. MRE offers guided kayak expeditions every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday on a stretch of Wild and Scenic Missouri River between Yankton SD and Ponca NE.
The Loftus Store in De Smet, South Dakota is the original store built in 1879. Featured in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s well-known "Little House" books, the store today sells a variety of merchandise and Laura Ingalls Wilder souvenirs.

Lewis & Clark Heritage Days Festival - Elk Point, South Dakota
This living hisotry festival has received national recognition for its re-enactment of the Lewis & Clark election, (Following the death of Sgt. Charles Floyd, the captains needed a replacement. A vote was held on Aug. 22,
1804. Patrick Gass received 19 votes in what is believed to be the first election by U.S. citizens west of the Mississippi.
The Laura Ingalls Wilder Memorial Society is located in De Smet, South Dakota.
Open year round, they offer tours of two original Ingalls family homes filled with items that belonged to Laura and her family. There are 16 other sites in De Smet that Laura mentioned in her books that visitors may see.
Lake Herman State Park - Madison, South Dakota offers camping, boating, fishing, and cross country skiing as favorite activities at the park.
