Argus Leader Tour de Kota – Yankton, South Dakota

Argus Leader Tour de Kota.jpgArgus Leader Tour de Kota is a bike ride across South Dakota beginning in Yankton. This is the second year for this event. The Tour de Kota will cover 460 miles and see more than 40 towns.

When riders pedal west out of Yankton, the first overnight stop will be Freeman, then Garretson. From there, the tour stops overnight in Volga and Clear Lake before concluding June 16 in Milbank.

The 2006 ride, which begins June 11 with a pre-ride near Yankton actially begins on June 12, with the mass of tires, jerseys and water bottles rolling toward Freeman, the first stopover in the multi-day event.

The Argus Leader Tour de Kota was created to highlight the state’s beauty, its residents and to give people an active way to explore South Dakota from a bicycle saddle. There are six towns along the route will host riders for overnight stays. More than 40 towns, including Menno, Canton and Estelline will be part of the trip which winds roughly 460 miles through eastern South Dakota, depending on the number of optional rides that bicyclists choose to take part in.

Yankton Discovery Ride (30, 74 or 100 mile options available)
Monday, June 12th:
Yankton to Freeman (73 miles)
Tuesday, June 13th:
Freeman to Garretson (100 miles)
Wednesday, June 14th:
Garretson to Volga (67 miles)
Thursday, June 15th:
Volga to Clear Lake (65 miles)
Friday, June 16th:
Clear Lake to Milbank (57 miles)
Total: 462 miles
