Loftus Store, De Smet, South Dakota

The Loftus Store in De Smet, South Dakota is the original store built in 1879. Featured in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s well-known "Little House" books, the store today sells a variety of merchandise and Laura Ingalls Wilder souvenirs.
Six of author Laura Ingalls Wilder’s "Little House" books are set in and around De Smet, including "By the Shores of Silver Lake", "The Long Winter", and "Little Town on the Prairie", and more.

De Smet is near the birthplace of Harvey Dunn, a famous prairie painter. Thousands come each year, from all over the world, to visit the "Little Town on the Prairie".

You can own a piece of the original Loftus Store that Pa help build. Salvaged wood and square nails from renovation is available for purchase.
