The Outdoor Campus – Sioux Falls, SD

outdoorcampus.jpgVisitors to The Outdoor Campus in Sioux Falls, SD will find two miles of walking trails wandering through a tall grass prairie, around the shores of an oxbow lake and by a pond filled with fish and frogs.

Wildlife, including deer, muskrat, beaver, waterfowl, raccoons and songbirds of all kinds are frequent visitors to the area. The 6,000 square foot butterfly garden is a huge attraction, bringing in not only people, but also thousands of butterflies. Inside, the building features a museum with a 3,000-gallon aquarium and many mounted animals and outdoor skill exhibits. A 140-seat theatre is available for movies and the Campus hosts several drop in events each year.

The Outdoor Campus is a great place to get acquainted with South Dakota’s natural amenitites via the campus’ huge stream-bank aquarium or its ongoing classes on fishing, hunting, canoeing and camping.

The Outdoor Campus is a joint project of the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks and the City of Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation Department.
