This rugged land was explored by Lewis and Clark in 1804. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, cowboys used the area to fatten thousands of cattle for shipment south.

The Fool Soldier Band Monument is located at the Klein Museum on west Hwy 12 in Mobridge, South Dakota.
Taking a trip down history lane you will want to see this monument. On August 20-22, 1862, a group of young Teton Sioux negotiated for the white captives of the Santee Indians and returned the captives to their families and friends. They expected no rewards or other reimbursements and their actions seemed to be motivated purely by humanitarian concerns.

CHAMBERLAIN BRIDGE - Chamberlain, South Dakota - Chamberlain Bridge, comprised of four 336-foot riveted Pennsylvania through truss spans and, completed in September 1925, was built and fabricated by the Missouri Valley Bridge & Iron Works of Leavenworth, Kansas.
Akta Lakota Museum and Cultural Center was constructed in 1968, the building currently home to the Akta Lakota Museum and Cultural Center once served as the school on St. Joseph’s campus. Roughly 10 years after its construction, students shifted from dormitories to family living units.
